Glitchbot ruins your Flickr-Photos

GlitchBot draws from a limited number of source images and a limited number of possible glitches and will theoretically yield all possible glitch derivatives. However, like the compression algorithms GlitchBot exploits, GlitchBot is an imperfect creation. Within the flickr comments and descriptions there can be found occasional typos, and much more rarely an image may pass through completely unglitched – a glitch manifested in the absence of glitch. Furthermore, though there is a limited supply of source images and of potential glitched derivatives, GlitchBot moves far too slowly (one image per day) to keep up with the rapid influx of new flickr uploads.
GlitchBot is an imperfect machine built to create imperfections.

Artist turns his Piss into Perfume

“I am very much into recycling,” Tree, born Charity Blansit, told AOL Weird News. “And urine is something I’ve thought needs to be recycled, since it’s something that gets eliminated.”
It’s a whiz of an idea and one that Tree was inspired to turn into a reality in 2006.
“It was the first morning after a full moon,” she said. “And I decided to collect my urine in a perfume bottle.”
At first, Tree’s concept was only to collect urine after each full moon.
“I was fascinated by how the smell changes depending on what you eat,” she said. “For instance, it smells really good after you eat a lot of honey and it smells terrible after eating chicken.”

The instruments are called escopetarras, a portmanteau of the Spanish escopeta meaning "rifle" and guitarra meaning, well, guitar.

And in the context of a drug and money fueled war raging in South America's cocaine Mecca for over two decades now, for López the escopetarra is a statement about the current climate of his native country.
López does not sell his creations nor does he expect money from patrons of his music. Rather he hopes listeners take away from his work that, in his own words, "in the end the gun dies and the guitar is born.

Diving thru the Jellyfish Lake on Palau

Jellyfish Lake is located on Eli Malk Island in The Republic of Palau. Twelve thousand years ago these jellyfish became trapped in a natural basin on the island when the ocean receded. With no predators amongst them for thousands of years, they evolved into a new species that lost most of their stinging ability as they no longer had to protect themselves. They are pretty much harmless to humans although some people with very sensitive skin may get a minor irritation from them.
These fascinating creatures survive by sharing a symbiotic relationship with algae that live inside of them. At night, the jellyfish go down to the depths of the lake where the algae feed on nutrients. During the day, the jellyfish come back to the surface and follow the sun across the lake in a massive migration. The algae convert the energy of the sun via photosynthesis into a sugar that feeds the jellyfish.
It is not possible to scuba dive in this lake because the nutrient rich layer at around 50 feet and below contains hydrogen sulphide which is highly toxic to humans. If a scuba diver was to swim in that layer, the toxins would enter the body through the skin and that exposure could be fatal. Snorkeling however, is perfectly safe and if you ever find yourself in Palau one day, you should make your way to this special place. The experience of swimming through millions of jellyfish is quite surreal and Palau is the only place in the world where you can do just that!

Zooming into a 48 Million Years old Spider

A mysterious ancient specimen at the Berlin Natural History Museum has finally been identified thanks to the latest computer imaging technology (see video above). The spider, which was trapped in amber 49 million years ago, can barely be seen under a microscope since the hardened resin has darkened and cracked over time. But David Penney and his team from the University of Manchester were able to peer inside it using X-ray computed tomography (CT), revealing the animal in a high level of detail.

"Euthanasia Coaster" is a hypothetic euthanasia machine in the form of a roller coaster, engineered to humanely -- with elegance and euphoria -- take the life of a human being. Riding the coaster's track, the rider is subjected to a series of intensive motion elements that induce various unique experiences: from euphoria to thrill, and from tunnel vision to loss of consciousness, and, eventually, death. Thanks to the marriage of the advanced cross-disciplinary research in space medicine, mechanical engineering, material technologies and, of course, gravity, the fatal journey is made pleasing, elegant and meaningful.

Inception Chair

Taking the chair archetype and placing within it chairs that are progressively smaller. Each chair has hand cut grooves on the inside edges of its seat frame as well as notches in the seat back. These grooves range from 1/2” wide to 1/8” wide. The mechanism works so that the pegs fit into the grooves of the chair one size bigger and slides into place so that the horizontal edge between the chair seat and back line up. The simple mechanism allows the chairs to be taken apart and put together with ease.
